Living a Healthy Lifestyle with a Busy Schedule

Most people want to be healthier, but they do not know how to do this or think that they do not have the time. The truth is that it does not have to take that long or need huge life changes to be healthy. Here are some science-backed tips health and fitness for busy people.

1. Smaller Bowls and Plates, but Taller Glasses

A study conducted by the University of Cambridge found that by using smaller dishes, you can eat up to 29% less calories per day. The reason this happens is that our brain thinks that we are eating the same amount of food, but in reality, we are eating a smaller portion. Cornell University also found the larger the plate, the more likely that you were to overload it. They tested this theory with a buffet with two sizes of plates.

2. Grab-And-Go Food

The worst thing for a diet is being hungry. A study that was published in the Journal of Marketing Research found that if you are hungry when ordering a meal, you will increase the amount of calories that you intake. Meal prepping can increase the chances of you sticking with your diet, which can also save you calories and money in the long run. Even if you only prep snacks and eat them, you are less like to overindulge at your next meal. There are many great easy snacks you can prep like grapes, carrots sticks, and pretzels with low salt.

3. Two Cups of Water Before You Eat a Meal

The journal Obesity published a study in 2015 that revealed drinking two full cups of water a half hour before eating caused moderate weight loss after 12 weeks. Drinking water after you wake up, before eating lunch and dinner, is the simplest thing you can do to improve your overall health. Water also keeps the body hydrated, which helps with joint health, headaches, and waste removal.

4. Workout during the Commercials

No one likes commercials, so you might as well do something healthy when they are playing. Every time those commercials are playing, you can do push-ups, sit-ups, squats, or wall sits. If you have some free weights, add in some curls or arm extensions to your workout. The longer that you watch TV, the more that you need to work out. However, watching Netflix or YouTube does not work because there are not enough commercials to increase your health.

Being healthy and fit only takes a short amount of time per day. So, being busy is really no excuse any more as science has proven that you can be healthy without hours of working out per day.
